Barclays Africa

Barclays Africa through TechLabAfrica called upon some of Africa’s brightest, ambitious and revolutionary early stage technology companies to take on some of Africa’s biggest financial and healthcare challenges and now, the first batch of startups have been selected and they are ten in number; four in the field of Health technology and the remainder six operate in the financial technology industry.

Of notable mention is Aella Credit, the company that wants to lend out N600 million to Nigerians without collateral.

“In order to compete, Barclays Africa needs to connect, shape and scale with these new industry players. We are looking for big, fresh ideas that promise to shake things up...” said Ashley Veasey, Chief Information Officer for Barclays Africa ahead of the selection

The program has begun and it will run for 13 weeks, where the startups will receive one-on-one mentoring, workshops in digital marketing, legal and accounting support, and weekly company pitches. The program will culminate in a demo day which will hold on the 10th of December 2015. Present at the demo day will be dozens of Barclays executives, Barclays Private Wealth clients, external investors, potential corporate customers, and journalists.
