Nigeria has experienced a 10% increase in the number of internet users, in the space of just 2 months, according to Internet Live Stats.  This means that about 60% of Nigeria's population has access to the internet, retaining her place as the most highly connected African nation in the world.

That's 74,230 346 million internet users, as of this publication. And if the live counter on the page is anything to go by, the number continues to grow by the second. This number, which the site is careful to note as an estimate, is calculated by determining how many individuals can access the internet at home, via any device and connection:

This indicator does not record use, or frequency of use, but only access. In order to have access, the hardware equipment must be in working conditions, the Internet subscription service must be active, and the individual household member must have access to it at any time (there must be no barriers preventing the individual from using the Internet). The hardware equipment may or may not be owned by the household. There are no age limits (minimum or maximum), so an Internet user can be of any age. There can be multiple devices and services within the household

In case you're wondering how Nigeria's teeming Dual SIM population might affect the accuracy of the stats, you probably need to know that Internet Live Stats defines an internet users as, "an individual who can access the Internet, via computer or mobile device, within the home where the individual lives".

In other words, it doesn't matter how many devices or ISPs an individual accesses the internet from, they are counted as "1" in the final results.

Among other most populous internet nations in the continent are Egypt (with over 43 million) and South Africa (with over 24 million).
