“To further advance the cause of technology in governance and make politics easier and interactive, VotersHQ has decided to lead the pack by making politics transparent and simple by condensing National Assembly bills and issues into concise, clear summaries in layman’s term.”

Over the past, we have seen the likes EiE Nigeria, BudgIT among other civic organisations that are driving popular interest in governance. Joining that league is VotersHQ, an organisation whose mission is to simplify politics while also increasing people’s engagement in governance.

VotersHQ wants to join other players to continuously work at making government more transparent and engaging and is looking forward to working other civic organisations towards raising issues that are of benefit to Nigerians. The organisation is currently working with BudgIT in one of its programmes.

VotersHQ has its focus on activities elected officials at the National Assembly at the moment. There are plans to branch out to those of State Assemblies across the nation, and other arms of government as well.

“I have never seen a bill in my life. If bills are been passed on our behalf, we should at least have our opinion on those bills voiced,” says Mohammed Kabir, technical Co-Founder at VotersHQ. He adds that the startup wants to ensure that the populace have access to details of bills been read or passed into law on the floors of the national assembly, for a start.

“In the next 6 months, we hope to have a more robust relationship with the National Assembly, priority access to bills, issues and deliberations. ‎Increase political awareness and engagement among Nigerians and initiate discussions with State Assemblies.” – Mark Afolabi, VotersHQ Co-founder.

This new civic organisation wants to leverage the power of technology to track the activities of elected officials while also allowing them make decisions based on their engagement with their constituency.
