Supa Strikas has announced its mobile game competition that will award $1000 to the first prize winner. The competition is targeted at showcasing the creativity of football fans and Supa Strikas fans alike in a bid to create the most entertaining football game for mobile devices and it is open to anybody within the ECOWAS region.

Supa Strikas is leveraging on the power of HTML5 to put the creativity power into the hands of football lovers. The challenge from a first glance looks easy but a closer look gave me a clearer picture of the challenge. Interactive game play, tournaments and matches, skills building, training camp, customisation goodies, multiplayer capabilities, social media connections, immersive realism, in-match commentary, replays and cutaways are the suggested features that can help win the competition. Supa Strikas is definitely not throwing money away because the features required are a lot but the challenge also interesting.

Rules

Code: The game’s front-end should be completely written in HTML, CSS and Javascript. If necessary, NodeJS, PHP, C# and other technologies may be used for the backend.

Rendering: Canvas or WebGL may be used for rendering.

Responsivity: When rendering, the game should be made to accommodate mobile device (tablets, phablets, phones) screens of varying resolutions.

Libraries: The use of external libraries is acceptable. However, provisions should be made to have a version of the game that is playable offline. Features that require online access should be disabled and the user notified that the set of disabled features are only accessible online.

Online Data: Steps should be taken to minimise the amount of internet data access necessary to play the game. Cache reusable assets and minimise redundant data transmissions.

Game Size: The total size of the code and game assets should be manageable and take into consideration the user’s device storage capabilities.
