Innovation in the African automobile space is taking a new turn as the Katanka Group is set to storm the market with the first ever made in Ghana cars.
The Katanka Group of companies is no new comer to the field of innovative technology as they have been perfecting the art of serving home made innovation for nearly two decades. In November, the local car maker Kantanka Automobile Company Limited inaugurated its manufacturing plant at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region of Ghana. During the inauguration, brand new additions to the family of super locally assembled automobiles were unveiled, these included the Kantanka Omama pickup, the Kantanka Onantefo, a 4x4 SUV, and the K71 saloon car.
The Katanka Group of companies has made a lot of mind-blowing progress in African made technology, from robotics engineering, SUVs, electronic roll dispensers, air-conditioners, excavators to a real and proper limousine. There is also the television that is started and controlled by clapping and an SUV that is started and controlled with a walking stick. Real African innovation, all proudly sporting the "made in Ghana" seal.
The Katanka Group was founded by Apostle Kwadwo Safo and is currently headed by his son Kwadwo Safo Jr who has taken reins from his father as CEO of the group. According to the CEO, one of the biggest challenges encountered by the company is faith and believe in the cars. As people have the believe that it is inferior because it is made in Africa. He however assured that the cars where built with the rugged terrain of Ghana and West Africa in mind and so could withstand any pressure.
The Katanta Group also faces a major challenge competing with already established brands as her manufacturing plant in Gemoa Mpota has a capacity to produce just 100 cars month, and the cheapest of the cars would cost around $20,000 when all the high production costs are factored into it. But Kwadwo Safo Jr is a dreamer that nothing can deter from his dreams, he says they have gotten thus far on the power of believe in possibilities and one day, the Katanta brand would be a global force to reckon with. We say a big amen to that.
