I have to admit, since it first went public in December 2015, I haven't paid much attention to Nigeria's 2016 budget. Not because I don't care how the the government will be spending 'my' money in 2016, but primarily because I've been too occupied with other things.

But even if I set out to ignore the budget outright, that would be near impossible. Not with the way Nigerians have been ranting about the budget on Social Media. I tried a couple of times to understand what all the noise is about but I don't have the patience to rummage through the chaotic collection of PDF files. The closest I've gone to making any sense of the budget is with BudgIT's brilliant but overtly simplified summary.

Thankfully, someone who understands my struggle, and the struggle of many other Nigerians, has decided to do something about it. A certain developer name Dewole Ajao has gone through the trouble of scanning all the PDFs, retyping the whole budget and presenting in a more digestible format.

If you visit publicdata.ng/budget2016, you can access Ajao's version of the National Budget 2016. It's complete with dropdowns, filters and search functionality to enable you sift through all the different sections of the budget at your own pace. What a relief!

By the way, Ajao is looking to improve on his already brilliant solution but he says he can't do it alone. So if you can code and have lots of free time, you can tweet at him to know the kind of assistance he needs.
