China-based OEM, Huawei recently launched the Huawei G Power into the Nigerian market and as the name connotes, it is intended to be strong in the power department.

We recently received a review unit and in usual fashion, we thought we'd take it for a quick spin before our extensive review so, here it goes.

What's in the box?

The Huawei G Power comes in eye-catching red boxing sealed on both edges

It's a minor annoyance having to peel off the sealing on both edges but it's probably worth it because ...

Hello you ...

Coming from a bigger 6-inch device, the Huawei G Power initially appears small to me till I'm reminded it is actually a standard 5-inch device.

Now if we could just take off that nylon wrap...

Viola!

There you have the 5MP front camera and speakers. The phone is packaged with a plastic protector which makes it feel bulky on initial handling. I'm not sure why they couldn't package the protector separately.

You'll find other usual suspects in the box

An earpiece set, a charger head and USB cable, manuals and a screen protector

The power and volume buttons are to the right of the device

At the back, you'll find the 13MP camera and flash

I'm already starting to find that plastic protector annoying.

I'm just gonna take it off ..

You want to take extra care opening the back cover (from the left edge, with phone facing down)

Make sure you push it up all the way to the top before pulling off the back cover

Inside, you'll find the Dual SIM slots, memory card slot and (non-removable) battery

Insert your SIMs and memory card and dazall. All that's left is to setup the phone

First Impressions

Huawei Power (9 of 19)

"The Huawei G Power is pretty neat" is most of what I can say for now. I've only had it for a few hours. Judging by the specs, I expect it to run pretty smoothly and have solid battery life. It does feel a bit bulky though. That's a price to pay for the big battery.

The Huawei G Power comes in White, Black and Gold and retails exclusively on Jumia for ₦46,500.
