UPDATE: A tweet from CcHUB just announced the postponement of the #BuildForMyCity hackthon in Abuja to June 10, 2016

Often times we compare our neighborhood and city with their counterparts in the more developed countries and end up getting our head messed up with vague conclusions.

Despite the obvious disparity, I’ve come to realize that the journey to such climax of development begins with an idea or a pool of ideas. So rather spending time on these fruitless fantasies or unnecessary debates over why a street in Washington DC isn’t the same as the one you’re living in, you can channel all that energy into hacking out those very solutions. All that is required is just a deliberate effort to channel an idea into fruitful results that can improve how people (most likely in your neighborhood) live, work, shop, get entertained, get educated, eat, keep fit and interact with public services in your area (beginning from Abuja).

This is why CcHub is organising a #BuildForMyCity hackathon in Abuja. #BuildForMyCity is a gathering of people hacking hyper local solutions to problems facing a selected neighbourhood.

Individuals or teams with ideas are hereby invited to submit or participate for the chance to have rapid prototypes developed at #BuildForMyCity. The gathering would provide an opportunity to hack the solutions together and test in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

It should be noted that Abuja is however not stealing the entire show, if you’re interested in running #BuildForMyCity in your neighbourhood, the platform also gives you a chance to host it as well.

#BuildForMyCity would be held at the re:learn centre in Abuja on the 27th-29th of May 2016. If you want to build products for Abuja, remember to register and share with people you think will benefit from this hackathon, you will be amazed at how much you can actually contribute to the development of your neighborhood.
