One of Uber’s strongest strategies to spread the adoption of its business is to expand virtually across every country in the world. That seems to have been working from the look of things. But beyond that, the company has also spotted the opportunities that are abound in Africa and hence the shift in terrain. Just recently, Uber commenced operation in Abuja, and we gather they are seriously moving to consolidate on its impending launch in Accra. Other countries currently part of Uber’s growing African network are Morocco, Kenya, Egypt and South Africa.
But that’s not all there is about Uber’s plan to cover the entire Africa. A few hours ago Uganda joined Uber’s growing African network with the launch of the taxi hailing technology platform in its capital city, Kampala. Although rumours about Uber’s launch in the capital city of Uganda has been mounting gradually for about 2 months, but finally the air has been cleared.

This however looks like a smart move from the company given that the city is not only Uganda’s largest with over 1,353,189 people, but also quite reputable in terms of traffic gridlock. This will present the opportunity of decongesting the roads and also putting money in the pocket everyone concerned.
In celebrating Uber’s launch in Kampala, the company will be providing free rides for all Ugandans in the capital city between 1pm on Thursday 2nd of June 2016 and midnight of Sunday, 5th of June 2016. What a brilliant way to make an announcement if you ask me.

We’d also not forget in a hurry that Uber’s arrival in some countries has been greeted with mixed reaction. Some have even moved against the company; saying their actions were anti-competitive and having disregard to local laws. After enjoying the initial fanfare and the free rides, it will be interesting to see how local drivers react to this move in the coming days. But for now, ride on Uganda, Uber is now in one of your cities.
