Lagos, without a doubt, is one of the finest cities in Africa. Her spirit of collaboration and disruption has not only led her to become an increasingly strong entrepreneurial hub, but also a good pick for many startup events. On this occasion, one of such events that come to mind is the Lagos Startup Week.

Lagos Startup Week is a free, five-day event that looks to build momentum and opportunity around entrepreneurship and SMEs by featuring various sessions, keynotes, panels, and meet-ups where these entrepreneurs get to share their experiences.

The 2015 line-up was packed full with over 20 events consisting of pitches, panel discussions, showcases, meetups and several other activities where over 60 startups were featured with over 1.5 million dollars of investment and about 1000+ entrepreneurs attended.

With this year’s edition themed “Be Inspired”, the aim is to get entrepreneurs inspired to take on new challenges and initiatives even in a difficult economy.

In addition to the usual panel discussion, pitches and conference-style talks, this year’s Lagos Startup Week will feature free masterclasses targeted at startups, product launches, and a Startup Exhibition.

“The present Nigerian economy, however tough, presents tremendous opportunity for Startups to capitalise and establish leading positions in the marketplace,” Olumide Olayinka, organiser of Lagos Startup Week, says. “This year’s events are community-led, all about building each other up and fostering the growth of a supportive environment to launch new businesses, whilst ensuring viable startups are linked up to willing investors and mentors alike.”
