Over the past couple of months, some of the biggest names from Silicon Valley have visited Nigeria. Ever since there have been speculations on which Nigerian startups would catch the attention of these Silicon Valley investors.

These speculations were seemingly affirmed when Y Combinator invited nine Nigerian startups for an in-person interview with the Silicon Valley accelerator in San Francisco, United States.

This morning it was confirmed that five out of the invited Nigerian startups would join the winter 2017 batch of the Y Combinator’s flagship program. There is a possibility that more startups would join the already successful ones because Y Combinator's interview is still up until December.

In the same vein, two Nigerian startups were selected to be a part of the 19th batch of 500startups company launch. Aella Credit and TalentBase were among the 44 internet companies selected from various fields across the globe for the program.

Aella Credit is an online lending platform for unbanked and underbanked individuals in emerging markets, while TalentBase offers HR software for growing enterprises in Africa.

To these ones who made it to both 500startup as well as Y Combinator program, we say congratulations.
