The website of news reporters Sahara Reporters had been down since the wee hours of this morning. All efforts to load the website proved abortive as it kept displaying a warning for users with security enabled browsers.
At first, it wasn’t clear what the issue was, but a few minutes ago a message was sent via the Sahara Reporters official Twitter handle that verified it was indeed a malicious attack.
The tweet read;
FLASH; Hackers attacked our website saharareporters.com overnight & installed malware. Our tech team working to restore the site ASAP!
Apparently, the tech team were hard at work as the site came back up a few minutes after the tweet was posted. There has not been any official comment after the website came back up.
The news breaking website founded in 2006 by Nigerian political activist Omoyele Sowore is known for breaking sensational news and investigative reporting. It is unclear why the hackers targeted the Sahara reporters website, but some comments on the tweets are insinuating foul play.
