The Nigerian ICT sector has lost an iconic innovator and entrepreneur.
It has been confirmed that Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Omatek Ventures Plc, Florence Seriki died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital LUTH after suffering from cancer of the pancreas. She was 54 years of age.
Born August 16, 1963, the first child of her family and a graduate of Chemical Engineer from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), she was a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, and Nigerian Computer Society.
Several news platforms report that she died Friday, the 3rd of March, but some others claim that the unfortunate incidence of her death just occurred yesterday, Sunday 5th of March, 2017.
Omatek computers is known in Africa as the first factory to locally assemble computers, with a completely knocked down computer factory in Nigeria and Ghana. The factory assembles speakers, keyboards, mouse, computer cases and many more gadgets.
In addition to her immeasurable contributions as the CEO and Managing director of the first ever local assembling factory in Africa, Florence Seriki was the former president of Information Technology Association of Nigeria.
In 2016, The Federal government engaged Omatek to help tackle one of the major problems in Nigeria -- power supply. Omatek will be involved in the provision of a three phase off-grid solar solution which is set to enhance a constant/stable power supply.
We do hope that her demise will not stop the plans for better power supply in Nigeria and that the Omatek brand will continue to live on.
