Hackers are here to stay and this time they are out for iPhone users. iPhone users risk losing all their personal data including photos, videos, and messages if the recent blackmail attempt on Apple holds any water.
A group of hackers that identified themselves as “Turkish crime Family” have given Apple until April 7 to meet their demands or have the data of millions of iPhone users remotely deleted. These hackers claim to have access to 559 million Apple email and iCloud accounts and have demanded that Apple pays $75,000 in bitcoin or ether, (cryptocurrencies) or $100,000 worth of iTunes gift cards.
The hackers who have been in conversation with Motherboard reportedly shared screenshots of emails between them and the Apple security team. The hackers also uploaded a YouTube video of them supposedly logging into some of the stolen accounts
However, Apple has reassured customers that its systems have not been breached and that the stolen account information may have been gotten from previously compromised third -party services. They are also working to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts and apprehend the criminals.
With all that has been happening recently, it will be foolish to ignore the threat to our safety on the internet. Hackers are here to stay; we must all come to terms with this reality and ensure we do not leave ourselves vulnerable to their attacks. Anyone can fall victim to a hack attempt.
Nobody can tell for sure if these hackers really have users login credentials or if they intend to carry out their threats. However you can never be too careful; to ensure the safety of your data, take these steps to secure your account before the 7th of April.
