Launched on the 28th of February 2017, Smart Cab is an app that allows one to order cab services online as well as track these cab requests. The product is a brainchild of Arogundade Jubril.

At first glance, Smart Cab appears to mirror popular e-hailing services in perks and functionality. However, it does boast of some unique features of its own. For instance, the service allows riders choose their preferred ride and drivers, right from the app. Not only that, there is also a promise to offer free WiFi on board.

What might seem equally fascinating is the attempt to tailor the services to meet the needs of the Nigerian market, employing community-driven strategies such as offering riders to earn 2% residual income on every other rider they refer.

Noteworthy is the fact that Smart Cab is heavily funded; considering that about 7 investors, excluding the founder, make up the team of board members. While Lagos might be the preferred market, judging by the fact that the base of operation is in Lagos, Smart Cab also boasts of availability in major states across Nigeria.

Thoughts

When it comes to transport services and other support services in Nigeria, there is never enough innovation. However, for all the promises this young company holds, there is always room for improvement. In fact, With the kind of competitors that in the same space as Smart Cab, the only way forward is to simply innovate.

So whether or not they can command the Uber-like influence, only time will tell.

Smart Cab is available for download on both iOS and Android.
