Sourcegig is an online freelance marketplace that connects local businesses to highly skilled local professionals. Founded by Ejeme Otene Aaron, Sourcegig is based in Abuja. Once the provider (freelancer) and the client (small business owner) determine the right fit for services offered and the client’s need, they collaboratively negotiate the terms of the project, including timeline, deliverables, and cost.

How Sourcegig works

The employer posts a job request on Sourcegig and chooses between 3 budget types ( request a quote, fixed budget, or select a range). Once the job/project is posted, Sourcegig suggests freelancers who can handle such jobs within their set budget and timeline. Employers on their own can also invite specific freelancers to take on projects. When a connection is made, both parties chat over Sourcegig Messenger ( similar to Facebook Messenger ) where they come to a mutual work agreement.

Thereafter, the employer releases payment for the job to Sourcegig's escrow system. Upon project completion, the employer is sent demos. Once satisfied, he approves payment to the freelancer. Sourcegig was inspired because most local service providers find it quite tough to land deals on similar foreign freelancing platforms.

As a result, the platform is dedicated to African freelancer who can view Jobs related to their skill set and budget, engage employers in real-time and get hired. After completing the project, they instantly get payments for the project in their local bank accounts. The startup's revenue model is commission based. It takes 10% on every project freelancers complete.

Sourcegig is set to take on both local and international competitors with its minimalist design and workflow, seamless hiring process, verified African freelancers and particularly its "Emoji Rating System" which allows a more enhanced review experience than many similar platforms.  In line with its mission to create value freelancers, are rated based on job success, project satisfaction and communication skills. Launched on July 7, 2017, Sourcegig is a benefactor of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program 2017 Class.

While Aaron Otene Ejeme doubles as founder and Marketing/Growth Lead, Ibrahim Abdullahi is vested with the engineering role and Olayinka Adeyoju heads customer relationship. "We are strong advocates of the online outsourcing/ freelance industry in Nigeria and Africa. That's why we are concentrating on trust and value because these two are the perfect couple for any successful company," Aaron says.
