Here are last weekend’s top headlines on startups, entrepreneurship, innovation and tech around Africa

WorldRemit raises Series C. WorldRemit is an African-founded, London-based digital money transfer service with a focus on developing markets.

The company recently raised $40m in Series C funding, which it looks to utilise in quintupling its user base from 2 million to 10 million. Half of that number is expected to come Africa. Read more on TechCrunch.

A TStv Christmas? After a couple of failed starts, amidst allegations of fraud and copyright infringement, Nigerian-indigenous satellite TV service, TStv has (finally?) committed to kicking off nationwide sales of commercial decoders before Christmas. Read more on Premium Times.

OPay. Opera recently launched OPay, a web-based payment platform that runs directly -- but is not limited -- within the Opera Mini browser. OPay enables essential services such as buying mobile airtime, data and paying for utility services like electricity and water.

While it has been officially unveiled in Kenya only, OPay is equally accessible in Nigeria and Ghana, albeit with limited functionality. Read more on Innovation Village.

Amazon SA data centres. Amazon Web Services, the cloud division of Amazon.com, is reportedly looking to build data centres in South Africa. If this ever materialises, it could mean improved accessibility and faster speeds for users/clients in Africa. Read more on TechCentral.
