It was the March edition of the CcHub's Developers' Parapo and the final item on the agenda was the usability testing of Jekalo - an application in its demo stage that helps people to offer or join a ride based on proximity.

The name Jekalo is a Yoruba phrase for 'let's go.'

How does Jekalo help you?

The platform uses the proximity of your starting point and destination to suggest rides.

You just enter your starting point as well as destination to get a list of available rides or people looking forward to sharing one. You can accept or join a ride after which you chat with participants, within the app, to arrange a meeting point, among others things

Talking of security, whether you are offering or sharing a ride, you have to verify with your LinkedIn profile. On connecting your LinkedIn account, you get notified that the app will get in touch with you as soon as there are available rides in your area.

"Before accepting to offer a ride or share a ride, check the profile of drivers to know the verification level."

What I see is a way to encourage the usage of the platform is an offer of points for users that either rate their drivers or passengers. However, I think it would be cool if the app could generate my location and all I just need to add is my destination and sign-in with my LinkedIn profile.
